Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia
BPH / Enlarged Prostate
A non-cancerous enlargement of the prostate gland common in older men, causing urinary symptoms such as weak stream and frequent urination.
BPH affects over 50% of men over age 60 and over 80% by age 80. Urinary obstruction symptoms range from mild to severe. Alpha-blockers (tamsulosin, alfuzosin) provide rapid symptom relief; 5-alpha reductase inhibitors (finasteride, dutasteride) reduce prostate volume over months. Combination therapy is used for larger glands or more severe symptoms.
