Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
Median Nerve Compression
Numbness, tingling, and weakness in the hand caused by pressure on the median nerve as it passes through the carpal tunnel at the wrist.
Carpal tunnel syndrome is the most common peripheral nerve entrapment disorder. It is associated with repetitive hand use, pregnancy, diabetes, hypothyroidism, and obesity. Conservative treatment includes wrist splinting and corticosteroid injections; surgical carpal tunnel release is highly effective for moderate to severe or refractory cases.
