Chronic Fatigue Syndrome
Myalgic Encephalomyelitis / CFS
A complex, long-term illness characterized by extreme fatigue not explained by any underlying medical condition, worsened by physical or mental activity.
Myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome (ME/CFS) is a disabling condition with no definitive diagnostic test or established cure. Post-exertional malaise — worsening of symptoms after minimal exertion — is a hallmark. Management is supportive and focuses on pacing, sleep hygiene, and symptom management. Low-dose tricyclic antidepressants and sleep aids are commonly used.
