Deep Vein Thrombosis
DVT
A blood clot in a deep vein, usually in the leg, which can cause pain and swelling and may lead to a life-threatening pulmonary embolism.
DVT occurs when a blood clot forms in one or more deep veins, most commonly in the legs. Risk factors include immobility, surgery, malignancy, and inherited thrombophilia. Anticoagulation with DOACs (rivaroxaban, apixaban) or heparin/warfarin is the standard treatment. Duration depends on whether it is provoked or unprovoked.
