Gout
Gouty Arthritis
A form of inflammatory arthritis caused by uric acid crystal buildup in joints, most often the big toe.
Gout causes sudden, severe joint pain, swelling, and redness. Acute flares are managed with colchicine, NSAIDs, or short-course corticosteroids. Long-term urate-lowering therapy with allopurinol or febuxostat reduces flare frequency and prevents joint damage. Diet modifications — including reducing purine-rich foods and alcohol — support uric acid control.
