Iron Deficiency Anemia

Anemia from Iron Deficiency

The most common type of anemia, caused by insufficient iron to produce hemoglobin, resulting in fatigue, pallor, and reduced exercise tolerance.

Iron deficiency anemia results when iron stores are depleted, impairing red blood cell production. Common causes include inadequate dietary intake, chronic blood loss (GI bleeding, heavy menstruation), and malabsorption. Oral iron supplementation is the primary treatment; IV iron is used for malabsorption or intolerance to oral iron.
