Lyme Disease
A bacterial infection spread through the bite of infected black-legged ticks, causing flu-like symptoms and a characteristic rash.
Lyme disease is caused by Borrelia burgdorferi and transmitted by Ixodes ticks. Early disease is characterized by the erythema migrans rash. Oral doxycycline is the preferred treatment; amoxicillin or cefuroxime are alternatives. IV ceftriaxone is used for neurological or cardiac involvement.
