Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder

A disorder characterized by unwanted, recurring thoughts (obsessions) and repetitive behaviors (compulsions).

OCD is driven by intrusive, distressing thoughts that trigger compulsive behaviors performed to reduce anxiety. SSRIs are the pharmacological first-line treatment, often requiring higher doses than used for depression. Cognitive-behavioral therapy with exposure and response prevention is highly effective.
