Pain

Acute and Chronic Pain

An unpleasant sensory experience that can range from acute and short-lived to persistent and debilitating.

Acute pain is typically linked to injury or illness and resolves with healing. Chronic pain persists beyond normal recovery and may require a multimodal approach including pharmacotherapy, physical therapy, and behavioral interventions. OTC analgesics such as acetaminophen and NSAIDs are first-line for mild to moderate pain.
