Inflammation of the prostate gland, causing pelvic pain and urinary symptoms, sometimes due to bacterial infection.
Prostatitis encompasses several conditions ranging from acute bacterial prostatitis to chronic pelvic pain syndrome. Fluoroquinolones (ciprofloxacin, ofloxacin) are the antibiotics of choice for bacterial prostatitis due to excellent prostate penetration.
