PTSD

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder

A mental health condition triggered by experiencing or witnessing a terrifying event, causing flashbacks, nightmares, and severe anxiety.

PTSD develops after exposure to traumatic events and involves intrusive memories, avoidance behaviors, negative mood changes, and hyperarousal. SSRIs (sertraline, paroxetine) are FDA-approved for PTSD; trauma-focused psychotherapy is the most effective treatment.
