Sciatica
Sciatic Nerve Pain
Pain that radiates along the sciatic nerve from the lower back through the hip and down the leg, often caused by a herniated disc.
Sciatica results from compression or irritation of the sciatic nerve, most commonly from a herniated lumbar disc, spinal stenosis, or piriformis syndrome. Symptoms include shooting pain, numbness, and tingling in one leg. Most cases resolve with conservative management: NSAIDs, physical therapy, and short-course corticosteroids; surgery is reserved for refractory cases.
