Type 1 Diabetes
Insulin-Dependent Diabetes
An autoimmune condition in which the immune system destroys insulin-producing beta cells in the pancreas, requiring lifelong insulin therapy.
Type 1 diabetes results from autoimmune destruction of pancreatic beta cells, leading to absolute insulin deficiency. It requires lifelong insulin therapy for survival. Intensive insulin regimens (basal-bolus) or insulin pump therapy combined with continuous glucose monitoring are the standards of modern management to minimize complications.
